Why emotive candid wedding photography is so special? | Phlock Live Photography Award | UK and Cambridgeshire Wedding Photographer , Diana Hagues
I love photographing emotions, all kinds of them, for the simple fact that moments are fleeting and often things happen in a mere second and then they are gone.
Candid Wedding Photography
I took the photograph below at Maddie and Channd’s wedding in Great Baddow, Essex, this July. I remember the moment very clearly outside the church before the start of the couple’s wedding. Their family and friends were arriving and there were the customary warm greetings taking place.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I tell my couples that I am at your wedding to photograph the real events that happen throughout your day. Because I primarily photograph candids I get to take an overview of the moments happening around me, observe and act when I feel the moments add to the story of your wedding day.
Moments like these two ladies, grandmothers and very important people to the couple, holding hands together and meeting each other for the very first time at their grandchild’s wedding day. I know it means so much to Maddie and Channd to have this photo that adds to the story of their special day. A moment of love, joy, and connection as seen by the way these two ladies are looking and holding hands with each other, as well as the happy looks surrounding them. Emotions that naturally take place without me interfering in the moment.
Phlock Photography Award - Emotive Wedding Photography
I was honoured when I recently was awarded a highly commended award for this wedding photo under ‘Emotional Connection’ in the Phlock photography competition. The community is full of talented and inspiring photographers from all genres of photography, so I was delighted to be recognised amongst such a beautiful collection of work.
UK Documentary Wedding Photographer
It is important to me, and also to my couples who book me to photograph their wedding day, to not fabricate moments or set up scenes. It means that what I see and capture will be true to life and true to the memory of your story.
And that's magical. It means that when you look back at your photographs you will be transported back to that day as if you were reliving how you felt all over again.
