PHLOCK LIVE: UK’s first women photography conference | Register now | 20-22 March 2020, Manchester
Phlock Live, the UK’s first women photography conference, is coming to Manchester in 2020.
This new three-day conference will bring women in photography together in one place with the aim of educating and learning from some of the best female creative minds in the business. Live workshops, inspiring talks, shoot-along and breakout sessions will take place over the course of the event that will leave women feeling inspired and confident to take their photography to the next level.
Why Phlock Live?
The vision to carve out a place for female photographers was created by photographer Laura Wood, who has co-founded the photography conference with her sister, Sarah.
Laura is passionate in championing women photographers to gain more representation in the photography industry, and was one of the1,300 nominated RPS One Hundred heroines in the Royal Photographic Society’s campaign, to honour one hundred photographic female heroines for the celebration of the centenary year of women’s suffrage in the UK.
In launching the RPS One Hundred heroines, the Society’s vice-president Del Barrett said: “I was becoming aware of so many brilliant female photographer who weren’t, in my opinion, getting the sort of visibility they deserved….We know that photography can change the world — and these photographers are certainly doing that.” (RPS journal, March 2019)
With women photographers being under-represented in the photography industry and not as widely recognised for their achievements through professional awards as their male counterparts, Phlock Live seeks to change some of that by creating a community, here in the UK and in Europe, where female photographers can all belong and learn from one another.

You can register your interest to the photography conference on their website and be the first to find out about the ticket sales, instructors, or even apply to teach.
I am delighted that I have been invited to be a part of this amazing conference and be asked to teach about something I love, which is freelensing (a technique of detaching lens from the camera body). I look forward to meeting and making some photography industry friends, both old and new, whilst I am there.
