There is no doubt that parenting is not always easy, but love prevails in the tiny, insignificant moments as much as the big moments or momentous milestones in your life. Those everyday moments that show how you connect with your child, or with your partner, are connections and interactions you make on a daily basis. They become part of your memory which without photographs might be lost forever as they bear witness to how time has passed. Documentary Family Photography is able to capture you as you are and show you a true representation of your life without intervention or being contrived. The Day In The Life session allows you to be present in your family while I document your connections and the feelings in your life. Because someday you and your children will look back and wonder about those real, defining moments between yourselves that took place all those years ago.

Documentary Family Photography - A Day In The Life session

I had a wonderful time capturing this family of three in their Day in the Life photo session. The family had talked about having a documentary family photoshoot for months, but they wanted to wait until their child had started walking so I could capture some of their activities together.

I travelled to York where the family lived. When I visited their home to document their family life, she had just celebrated her second birthday with decorations and cards still visible around the house. It was also not difficult to spot the toys lying around, like the brio train set, which said a toddler lived there. I was in for a fun session and it was!

We started at a gentle pace with the family getting up, capturing their morning routine followed by playing and a walk to view some horses (they were far away in the field). We stopped for a snack and wander in the community orchard instead before it was time for lunch and a nap. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting one of their favourite place with a giant adventure playground which was no doubt designed to wear out a lively toddler and perhaps the adults too!
