The rain did not dampen Andreia and Andrew’s beautiful city wedding in Cambridge last December when they got married two weeks before the lockdown.

Theirs was a special intimate wedding, as Andreia’s family from Portugal couldn’t attend her wedding day. Instead, they chose to celebrate with two of their closest friends, while ensuring their family was a central part of their minds by keeping them involved throughout the day with texts and Whatsapp video calls. Andreia’s mother and grandmother watched as Kate Fletcher did the bride’s hair and make-up. Her mother had even organised a small party back in Portugal at her house with some of their friends to celebrate the couple’s wedding.

After the ceremony at the registry office, Andreia and Andrew took a little wander around through the Cambridge streets, chatting with their friends, and smiling as some friendly passers-by greeted them with lovely congratulatory messages. Andreia and Andrew had said that they were quite shy in having their pictures taken, but as my photography is about being in the moment and having a gentle, unposed approach, then you wouldn’t have noticed this about them. In fact, we got some great natural and relaxed couple photos that captured their happy and fun personality, and the real emotions they share as a couple.

It was a joy to see all the smiling faces of the bride and groom, their guests and everyone we met on the day. And a real privilege to make photographs that document their real and relaxed, intimate wedding.
