The Hidden Mother: Self-Portrait of Motherhood

Hidden in the shadow caught between the layers of bedsheets I had hung out to dry. This self-portrait will forever sum up to me this season of motherhood — being amongst the mountains of chores, homeschooling and cooking meals. It is a thankless and rewarding job in itself, which in addition to this difficult year we have found ourselves in so far has made the job tougher.

We are now in a period of yet another change with the children returning to school next week and I am not afraid to express a little sign of relief. Motherhood is wonderful in so many ways, but it can be testing at times. These past couple of months have worn down my mental and emotional energy both from having everyone in a confined space for long periods and the constant demands which it has led. I am looking forward to emerge from those shadows, have some silence and space in which to work, and tend to myself again.
